Synopsis
Riverside riparian forests are communities that, while having no greater production value, offer a range of ecosystem services that make them one of the most valuable European natural habitats in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, with priority protection status. The regulation of the restoration of natural resources (Nature Restoration Law) voted by the European Parliament in 2023 obliges Poland to take action to restore the most endangered habitats, including riverside riparian forests, in the first stage by until 2030. Recognition of the distribution, state of preservation, dynamics, threats and possibilities of protection of these forests in the Silesian Voivodeship has, on the one hand, educational value, and on the other hand, it may become a source of knowledge helpful in taking specific actions implementing the EU provisions.
