Synopsis
The Reality of Law is a bold attempt to outline a thoroughly naturalistic and scientific view of the legal order. It aims to construct an image of law as a phenomenon deeply embedded in biological, psychological, and social reality. Conceived as not an isolated system of norms, but as processes in which human needs, values, and goals transform into decisions that affect the motivations and behaviors of others. It seeks to recognize in law a result of profound human evolutionary dispositions as well as conflicting interests, emotions, and calculations of individuals. The author’s clear and often provocative claims serve as an excellent invitation to reflect on the way in which law co-creates the reality of which it is a part.
