Synopsis

The monograph explores the formation of the Metropolis GZM (Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia) within the broader process of metropolisation. The author examines whether this functional area can evolve into a lived space and serve as a new reference point for local identity. Focusing on the cultural and symbolic dimensions of metropolisation, the study analyses press discourse and reader comments from two major regional newspapers (Dziennik Zachodni and Gazeta Wyborcza, 2007–2018). It reveals the complexity of the media representations of the metropolis and the role of the press in shaping collective imagination. This monograph serves as a comprehensive resource for researchers, practitioners and anyone interested in urban transformation, metropolitan governance and the media’s influence on collective imagination.
