Synopsis
The Saga of Yngvarr the Far-Traveller was presumably written at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, based on a Latin vita, which may have been authored by the Icelandic monk Oddr Snorrason.. The saga tells the story of the eleventh-century Swedish nobleman Yngvarr, who, after a period of service with King Óláfr Eiríksson, sets off at the head of the expedition to Garðar (Rus) and then to other countries. The expedition ends with the main character's death, upon hearing of which his son, Sveinn, decides to repeat his father’s journey. To Yngvarr’s expedition refer more than 20 runic inscriptions from Sweden, dating back to the eleventh century.
