Synopsis
The book reflects on the transformations of the role of the citizen in the context of the observed processes of distancing oneself from politics. It juxtaposes two processes. On the one hand, the sense of political subjectivity awakened based on expectations and certain illusions seeks a place of settlement to give an individual a sense of influence and control. On the other hand, politics is increasingly inclusive and discourages involvement. It requires knowledge and the ability to understand socio-political processes; it is dynamic and more challenging to predict in the context of political crises. However, this does not change the fact that politics needs citizens, and citizens need politics. The book describes the relations between the processes that have been launched from a citizen's perspective. In particular, it focuses the Reader's attention on three areas in which we observe intensive depoliticization processes and – consequently – dynamic transformations of citizens' political subjectivity: institutional trust, new media and economics.
