Synopsis

The monograph offers the most extensive to date, multi-faceted analysis of poetic technique and innovative problem-oriented approaches to Erotyki and the Puławy–Sieniawa poetry of Franciszek Dionizy Kniaźnin. A key strength of the book is its reading of the poet’s oeuvre through the prism of its thematic motifs, which makes it possible to bring to light phenomena and issues that have hitherto gone unnoticed. Another important asset of the study is its demonstration of new aspects of Kniaźnin’s poetry’s embeddedness in ancient, early modern and native Old Polish literary traditions. This is one of those publications to which literary scholars of subsequent decades and generations continually return, invoking the observations and findings it gathers in the course of their own inquiries.
