Synopsis

This book presents a comprehensive analysis of the political activity of Generation Z youth councillors, including their motivations, levels of political knowledge and agency, and their perceived support from others. The research reveals a rather pessimistic picture of the functioning of youth councils. Young activists report lacking sufficient competencies to influence political decisions effectively. While they experience a sense of collective political agency, they declare lower levels of individual agency and point to insufficient support from schools, local governments, and the wider community. The findings serve as a starting point for recommendations—a “Decalogue of Youth Councils”—whose implementation could contribute to the greater empowerment of young activists.
