Synopsis

This monograph constitutes a sociological study of the experiences of people hosting refugees from Ukraine. The theoretical framework, which included the concept of hospitality and the issue of refugees, served as the starting point for the development and implementation of qualitative research among respondents who shared their opinions on the pros and cons of hosting people fleeing the atrocities of war. The concept of hospitality encompasses a range of aspects, from simple gestures such as inviting someone for coffee to more complex traditions of welcoming guests for dinner or overnight stays. It is expressed differently in different cultures, but always carries a message of openness, acceptance, and respect for others. Hospitality is an element of culture and an essential characteristic of humanity. It is crucial in extreme/borderline situations, where taking someone in means saving their life.
