Synopsis
Reading Is the Best Remedy. The History of Polish Literature for Foreigners is a textbook designed for readers who speak Polish at least at a B1 level, but for whom Polish is not their first language. The textbook – divided into three volumes – covers a selection of works from the Middle Ages to contemporary literature. The selection of texts is deliberately subjective, guided not only by the idea of representativeness, but also by didactic usefulness, the linguistic abilities of learners, and the interpretative potential of the texts. Therefore, this publication is suitable for foreign students of Polish and Slavic studies, enthusiasts, and readers curious about Polish culture and language. The focal point of each lesson is a literary text, which has served as an inspiration for the development of language exercises (focused on listening comprehension, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, speaking, and writing) as well as interpretive and analytical exercises. Sections on "Important Concepts," "Worth Knowing," "Interesting Facts," and "Reflections," which serve to supplement the historical, literary, cultural, and linguistic context, have also been introduced. Additional materials from various sources are also included, such as selected excerpts from literary studies, entries from dictionaries and encyclopedias, and information from websites – all of which broaden the perspective of literary texts and support the development of linguistic competences. On the one hand, the textbook combines teaching the history of Polish literature with language and cultural education, and on the other, it encourages further, independent reading exploration.
